There's so many gorgeous games at BitSummit Kyoto that it's hard to choose which ones to write home about. One particular standout for me was Carto, from Taiwan-based studio Sunhead Games, which debuted at this year's GDC Indie Megabooth. The mechanic is so clever I'm surprised it's never been quite done like this: You progress through a dangerous world in what looks like a normal 2D adventure title, except that the map screen is composed of moving tiles. To progress through the world you must zoom out, stitch the tiles in the right order, and only then does the edge of the screen allow you to move along.
It's a puzzle-adventure hybrid. Do want.
