Panzer Dragoon I and II remakes are incoming

December 10, 2018 1 min read

The Sega Saturn dragon-rider rail shooters Panzer Dragoonand Panzer Dragoon II Zweiare getting a revival. Revealed this week in an unassuming developer post, Forever Entertainment announced that it will co-create remakes of both games with assistance from Sega. It's a series I've always intended to play due to its cult classic status, but it's not the easiest thing to get your hands on in a pinch.

While platforms weren't mentioned yet, the first Panzer Dragoon remake is scheduled for release "before the end of 2019." Presumably, that means we'll start hearing specifics about the project soon.

Forever Entertainment didn't initially ring any bells for me, but the studio worked on Fear Effect Sedna, which made the rounds this year. The Gdynia, Poland-based team is promising "completely new graphics compatible with today's standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story."

With Sony recently trying its hand at the mini console craze with the PlayStation Classic, there's a renewed interest in Sega cashing in on our nostalgia with something, anything. Sega had some absolute gems on its 3D consoles in the '90s. It'd be great to see those titles continue reaching new players.
