Whereas this year's Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu!and Let's Go Eevee! are intended to be an easy entry point for a wide audience (and something of a stopgap to satiate Switch owners), next year's mainline Pokémongame for Nintendo Switch is being designed specifically with "longtime fans" in mind.
The Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara made that remark and brought up a few other details about the untitled 2019 game in an interview with Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera).
According to Ishihara, it will be a "completely different" game compared to Let's Go.
"We want to make Pokémonfans say 'this is what I've been waiting for' by delivering a brand-new product packed with gameplay elements and plenty of new Pokémon to encounter."
Put another way:"The game will give a good understanding of what an evolved Pokémongame looks like after it has continued to succeed the traditions of Game Freak."
This is exactly what I hoped and expected after the recent reveal event. I'm decently interested in the stripped-back focus of Let's Go, and co-op is a great addition; I'll probably be there at or around launch in November. Next year's game, though? No question about it -- I'm all in for the new monsters.
