In a statement made to Eurogamer, Relic Entertainment have announced that they are ceasing future development on RTS Warhammer title, Dawn of War III. Citing low sales and a small player-base, Relic stated that their plans for the title have been abandoned, including any DLC and other additions.
"While Dawn of War 3 has a dedicated player base, it didn't hit the targets we were expecting at launch, and it hasn't performed the way we had hoped since," said the Canadian developer. "When a game under-performs, plans need to change. With Dawn of War 3, we simply don't have the foundation we need to produce major content. We're working in close partnership with Sega and Games Workshop to determine the best course of action."
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III launched in April of last year to generally favourable reviews. If the game has indeed flopped in the eyes of its developers and publishers, it may leave the future questionable for further video games under the Warhammer banner. Considering the brand has survived for thirty-odd years, I'm sure it'll find a way to rise from the ashes.
