Sega FES 2019 will celebrate the Sega Saturn, Segata Sanshiro to guest star

When I got a Sega Saturn one Christmas, it was completely unexpected, as I was sure my parents couldn't afford it, but they were somehow able, and I spent endless, endless days and nights rocking Sega Rally, Fighting Vipers, Command and Conquer, Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Madden. This was instead of concentrating on my graduation year, but... yeah.
Anyway, the 25th anniversary of Sega's 1994 console is to be celebrated at this year's Sega FES roadshow, which takes place on the weekend of March 30 in Tokyo. There will be a variety of stands and displays celebrating the Saturn and its great catalogue of titles, as well as Q&A sessions with the devs and, best of all, an appearance by legendary marketing mascot Segata Sanshiro (Hiroshi Fujioka).
The amusing superstar appeared in numerous Sega Saturn commercials in Japan as a pastiche of the Sanshiro Sugata character from Akira Kurosawa's classic film of the same name. Segata appeared in numerous TV and radio spots, even recording an advert around exam times where he told kids to stop playing Sega Saturn games and study. This is advice that never reached British shores, thus here I am, an intellectual wreck.
You can check out some of his ads in the video below, courtesy of Saturn Memories, including one where he wipes out a nightclub full of partygoers. Sega FES 2019 takes place March 30-31 at Bellesalle, Akihabara in Tokyo.
