Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is mixing things up quite a bit with a huge cast of characters and levels, but there's also going to be an array of modes as well.
Squad Striker is now a thing, where each player uses five consecutive fighters(3v3 or 5v5). There's also a default tournament mode and more concessions for stamina (HP) mode. Another mode restricts fighters sequentially as they are picked, and training has been greatly enhanced with grids and actual stats. If you're hankering for single player content "Classic" is back, which is basically arcade mode.
Nintendo is teasing a "mysterious mode they can't talk about yet," so there's much more to come in the future for Smash. As for gameplay changes there's now an option for a "Final Smash Meter," which you can raise during combat to unleash a "weaker Final Smash" attack -- just like popular Versus Capcom fighters (or anything else that uses meters for that matter).
