Brain&Brain is following up its storybook adventure Burly Men at Seawith another minimalist game, Wooden Nickel, and I'm here for this aesthetic. It's so different from my usual inbox pitches.
The main hook, at least in my eyes, is the game's presentation. As a traveler stopping through a small town on your way across the American frontier, you'll "step inside the articles and advertisements of a colorful Old West newspaper that responds to your part in its story." It's a neat, cohesive way to tell a bunch of different types of stories while still staying true to the time period and theme.
Wooden Nickelis said to revolve around "an increasingly interconnected set of mysteries, absurdities, and unexpected friendships—or hostilities." If you happen to find yourself in Seattle at the end of the month, the game will be playable at PAX West inside the Indie Megabooth (#862).
